Cezanne Inspired Apple Still Lifes (1st-2nd Grade)
In this lesson, 1st and 2nd Grade students learned about French painter Paul Cezanne and explored visual arts concepts such as composition, still life, and shading. As a part of this exploration, students were taught how to compose and create shaded colored pencil drawings of apples inspired by Cezanne’s famous still life paintings of fruits.
Magritte Inspired Surrealist Eyes (9th-12th Grade)
In this lesson, 9th-12th Grade students learned about Belgian painter Rene Magritte and explored visual arts concepts such as surrealism and shading. As a part of this exploration, students were taught how to conceptualize, compose, and create shaded colored pencil drawings of surrealist eyes inspired by Magritte’s famous painting The False Mirror.
Watercolor Animal Portraits (10th-12th Grade)
In this lesson, 10th-12th Grade students learned about contemporary Ukrainian artist and illustrator Nazar Stefanovic and explored drawing and painting terms and techniques such as animal portraiture, flat washes, graded washes, and dry brush painting. As a part of this exploration, students were taught how to draw and paint lifelike, yet expressive portraits of animals inspired by Stefanovic’s artwork using pencils and traditional watercolor paints.
